Director Antoine Fuqua's revved-up adaptation of the 2018 Danish film stays in one place but moves like a tough, efficient action flick.

Tightly-wound star vehicle gives the actor plenty of room to show off, as an officer bound to desk duty at a call center.

It's not hard to figure out where The Guilty is going, but it's still a thrilling ride.

Avec Sans appel, qui arrive sur Netflix ce vendredi, Jake Gyllenhaal s'offre presque un projet solo. Si l'intrigue se révèle au final prévisible, l'intense interprétation de celui-ci sauve la mise.

Heureusement, la puissance du jeu de Jake Gyllenhaal parvient à retenir notre attention. Pour l'acteur, il s'agit ici d'une composition marquante, dans la mesure où son personnage est toujours appelé à réagir à ce qu'il entend, et doit se fier à ses propres instincts, ses propres perceptions. On apprendra aussi très vite (trop vite ?) pourquoi cet inspecteur de police, visiblement instable émotivement, a été muté à ce poste.

Gyllenhaal successfully delivers a turn so exceptional that it successfully overshadows a somewhat predictable plot.
